This week was super cool. We've had quite a few little things happen. Nothing huge, but some cool little details.
Tuesday was the most boring day of the week. We had to go to the bus station to change all 40+ tickets that had been bought to go to and come from the conference that got cancelled. That took quite a long time and just killed my vibe for the rest of the day, because they treated us kinda poorly. But whatever,it takes to progress the work of the Lord, I guess.
Wednesday, they told us we would actually have the conference in Acapulco with Elder Pingree, and so we had to go back and get the tickets Thursday morning at 5:15. We left and had a great time with Elder Pingree. He didn't speak spanish before being assigned to be the 2nd counselor in the Area Presidency, and he was always asking for corrections and just wanted to be understood. He was so kind and Genuine. President Treviño says the Elder Pingree is the only person he personally knows that has all the attributes of Christ. It was cool, and after we had a little leadership conference and he helped us understand our role as leaders a lot more. It was all around really awesome. He even remembered that we saw him in Cuernavaca Centro about 7 months ago!
Leadership from our zone |
Friday we visited a lady named Lavinia, who is actually from Birmingham England and doesn't speak any Spanish at all. She's an inactive member, but her husband was really active when he was alive. They even lived in Utah for a while. She never learned to read and she has memory issues and doesn't really remember a whole lot of what has happened in her life. (she barely remembers when she tells us stuff and is suprised when we bring it up later) But she showed us some books that her husband had, and they were original prints of the Book of Mormon, without verses or formatting like that. It looked a lot more like a book. She let us take some pictures.
Acapulco! I really miss this place |
Gabino's gonna have to wait a bit longer to get his interview with president. But he is CONVERTED. He has no issues with anything. Literally, every time we go to visit him and he asks us a question like "why can't I drink coffee, Even if it's natural from the ground" we both think "dangit, this is what's gonna hold him back. This is what will keep him from getting baptized" and we explain it really lightly, hoping not to offend him or drive him away. But every single time, without fail, he just accepts it, and says" If that's what I need to do to live the life God wants me to, that's fine. The world has nothing to offer me anyways." Just an incredible guy, and he'll be one of my favorite converts one day...
Today we went with the Elders from Ocotito to the mall to go buy a suit for my companion(which we never ended up buying) but we all did buy ties with chile peppers on them. Mine are green. We got some cool pics with the Chilpo Letters there.
We're really trying to make sure this next week goes better, and focusing on not getting distracted by other things, and doing our best to feel like we're doing our part. We couldn't do a ton last week, but we're hoping for a better one this week.
Have a great week! Read 2 Nephi 2 if you can this week. I really like that one, and it talks a lot about why we're here and why we have trials.
