Week 18 - Cambios (Changes)

Baptism of the Linares girls with special guests
Elder Ortiz and the Iguala elders.
So, we have changes today. We had One of the Zone leaders at the house when they got the call. We found out...that we'll both be staying in Temixco this next change! A few people from my generation of missionaries are going to be training or being a District Leader, but I'm just glad we're staying here to teach all the people for this next six weeks. If we get it right, we should be baptizing every week!

So Tuesday, we had a baptism for the Linares Girls. Their family is a bit inactive, and the missionaries have been trying to get their daughters baptized for at least six months. One day we asked why they didn't want to be baptized, and they said it was so they could have their Comunión in the Catholic Church. We finally just said' "That's fine. Communion is in December. After you do that in the Catholic church, will you get baptized in the True church?" They said yes.

We had their baptism that day and it was awesome. When we asked who they wanted to baptize them, the younger one wanted me to do it, and the older one wanted Elder Ortiz to do it. So Elder Ortiz came up from Iguala just for the baptism. Who would have thought that our first baptism together would be when we weren't companions? The other missionaries said I did a perfect job with the baptism. I had good form and said all the words right. Like a gold medalist diver, I think.

We have a family that is really liking our lessons, but they have two issues. First, the dad has been known to argue with missionaries from other churches, and we were worried that he wouldn't let his family take the lessons. The other is that their gramma is a weird biblical omniist, where she thinks that we all worship the same God anyway, so we don't need to teach her anything. She sits in on all the lessons, but she doesn't really absorb what we're saying. We spent 20 minutes trying to explain to her that the reason the church is so important is because God needs to follow him, but in his way and with his own ordinances. We're still working on that issue, but we've solved the one with ther Dad. He came in in the middle of a lesson, and sat down to hear us. We were teaching the plan of salvation. We started testifying, and he started Crying a little. Again, at the end when we were praying, he started crying again. Helot only letsus teach his family, but he wants to hear more, too.
Our baptism in Pradera

We had another baptism in Pradera, (another area in our district) where I got to do the baptism. We weren't teaching her, but I had met her before when we went to interview her dad. When the misioneras asked who she wanted to baptize her, she said that she didn't now anyone except the Elders. The hermanas sadi it was ok if we baptized her, so she asked for Elder Ortiz. Well, hes gone, so the line of succesion fell to me. It was a good experience for me. I actually had to do it twice, because The misioneras only filled the font 2/3 of the way, and I couldn't get her all the way under. The second time was almost the same, and her foot came out of the water. But, for just a moment, she pulled her leg back down, and it was good. SO, it's kinda whatever. I'm a good bautizador.

The rest of the week has been kinda whatever. Everyone is gone for vacations, but we've been putting in work to find new people to teach. This week should be awesome, because everyone will be back.!

¡Nos Vemos!
